PNK-6 is designed to fulfill the following tasks: - detection and identification of ground and aerial targets by the tank commander in daylight and at night; - target range measurement by a laser rangefinder; - target designation for the gunner; - targets engagement with the gun and coaxial machine-gun by the commander in the backup or semiautomatic autonomous backup control mode (in case of the gunner's fire control system failure); - ATGM fire in the backup mode using the gunner's TI channel. The sight is used in the "OPLOT" tank fire control system and can also be used to upgrade the T-64B, T-72 and T-80 tanks
